RCC Surface Pro

RCC Surface Pro is a new finishing method for roller compacted concrete pavement that offers great durability and uniform aesthetics. It is a carefully balanced, topically applied admixture designed specifically for Roller Compacted concrete that allows the concrete to be troweled smooth, with enough cement paste to accept a traditional concrete broom finish.

Colloidal Silica Technology

Colloidal Silica is at the heart of RCC Surface Pro. Colloidal Silica is virtually pure silica particles suspended in liquid. These silica particles react with Calcium Hydroxide to form more additional Calcium Silicate Hydrates – commonly known as cement paste – without altering water to cement ratio. Colloidal Silica dramatically increases overall surface durability and performance of Roller Compacted Concrete.

What is RCC

Roller Compacted Concrete (RCC) is a unique and highly durable form of concrete. Due to its high strength, speed of placement, and cost effectiveness, RCC is ideally suited to a wide variety of heavy duty applications.

What are the benefits?

Strength – Roller compacted concrete is high strength, with compressive strength ratings as high as 10,000 psi. It is highly durable and resistant to deicers, freeze thaw, impact resistance. RCC maintains strength and durability even in high heat conditions.

Speed – RCC can be placed rapidly with high-density paving equipment. It is ready for very light traffic almost immediately after placement, with most applications achieving operational strength within a few days.

Economy – Roller compacted concrete can be placed relatively low cost. It does not require forming or dowels. Over its lifetime, RCC will demand minimal upkeep and repair. RCC Surface Pro will extend surface life-cycle and chemical durability of Roller Compacted Concrete.

Sustainability – RCC can be produced with recycled aggregates. It does not contain petroleum or bituminous materials. Roller compacted concrete can even qualify for LEED credits on some projects.

What makes it unique?

Though they are used in different proportions, roller compacted concrete has the same components as traditional concrete – cement, sand, aggregate, water, and optionally pozzolans. Unlike cast concrete, however, Roller Compacted Concrete mixes contain little water and are considered zero slump concrete. This means it is not poured like traditional concrete; it is placed with paving equipment and compacted with vibratory and static rollers.

What are the limitations?

Roller Compacted Concrete does come with some notable limitations. Most of these are connected to one thing: the finish. Due to the low slump of RCC, the surface is not as consistent in appearance or smoothness as traditional concrete. Roller Compacted Concrete is also limited to traffic under 40 mph, unless the surface is profiled by grinding to specific flatness ratings.

Roller Compacted Concrete Pavement

Roller Compacted Concrete Pavement is durable and economical. It can be placed and opened to traffic quickly. Areas paved with RCC have a long service life with minimal upkeep required. Roller Compacted Concrete it is generally reserved for low-speed roads, access roads, highway shoulders and other utilitarian environment for heavy traffic.
